<p>The International Neuroethics Society is an interdisciplinary group of scholars, scientists, clinicians and other professionals who share an interest in the social, legal, ethical and policy implications of advances in neuroscience.  Our mission is to promote the development and responsible application of neuroscience through interdisciplinary and international research, education, outreach and public engagement for the benefit of people of all nations, ethnicities, and cultures.<br />

<p>The Humanities Research Institute and the Centre for the History of Violence at the University of Newcastle, Australia, is holding its inaugural Violence Studies conference at the Crowne Plaza, Newcastle, Australia, 21-23 August 2012. The 2012 Violence Studies Conference will address a range of critically important ideas relating to the history of violence.<br />

We invite prospective participants to submit a presentation proposal for one of the following parallel session options:</p>
<p>• 30-minute panel presentations<br />
• a 90-minute workshop<br />
• a jointly presented 90-minute round table session.<br />
Parallel sessions are loosely grouped into streams reflecting different perspectives or disciplines.</p>

<p>The event will take place on the campus of the University at Buffalo<br />
Submissions should be prepared for blind review and sent via email to paulpoen@buffalo.edu no later than <strong>June 30, 2012</strong>.<br />

Submissions are invited on any topic pertaining to experimental philosophy. Authors will have approximately 40 min. presentation time. Authors can report new experimental results or contribute to broader philosophical or methodological debates over existing results.<br />
Both XPhi-friendly and XPhi-critical papers are welcomed, although XPhi-critical authors may be asked to sit at the back of the room. Authors who choose to read their papers verbatim rather than talk through them will be served cold (but not iced) coffee.<br />
Sponsored by the Peter Hare Memorial Fund and the Department of Philosophy at the University at Buffalo.</p>

<h3>Presentación</h3>
<p>El Grup d&#8217;Estudis Humanístics sobre Ciència i Tecnologia (GEHUCT) realitza una activitat de recerca interdisciplinar al voltant de les relacions entre Ciència, Tecnologia i Societat, sota les òptiques coordinades de la Filosofia de la Ciència, la Didàctica de les Ciències Empíriques i la Filosofia Moral<br />
El disseny triangular del GEHUCT en les tres àrees descrites respon a la necessitat de respondre de forma precisa, alhora que coordinada, a tres moments crucials de la l&#8217;activitat científica contemporània:</p>
<p>1. La generació del coneixement científic, àrea en la qual els especialistes en Filosofia de la Ciència del grup desenvolupen un paper fonamental.</p>
<p>2. La comunicació i difusió del coneixement científic, que abarcaria des dels aspectes cognitius i estructurals relatius a la comunicació de la ciència per part del periodisme especialitzat o els gabinets de premsa de la ciència d&#8217;àmbit privat fins l&#8217;educació científica present a les nostres escoles. Els investigadors en Didàctica, alhora que els filòsofs de la ciència especialitzats en la Comprensió Pública de la Ciència (Public Understanding of Science) analitzen aquest punt. Pensar la ciència, bé a l&#8217;escola, bé a través dels mitjans de comunicació, resulta fonamental per a una correcta implementació del coneixement científic en tots els estrats socials, fet que és extremadament beneficiós pel progrés científic.</p>
<p>3. La reflexió, reacció i debat social a la informació científica, a partir de la discussió dels principis ètics i morals implícits en l&#8217;activitat de la ciència que són debatuts per la societat civil. Els especialistes en Filosofia Moral estudien les relacions entre els valors i l&#8217;activitat científica, amb la inclusió dels valors procedents de la societat civil.</p>
<p>Els components més veterans del grup compten amb una dilatada i reeixida activitat investigadora que en aquest moment canalitzen de forma coordinada entorn a la investigació sobre les biotecnologies. La creació d&#8217;una regió de recerca catalana en biotecnologies (BioCat) augmenta la necessitat d&#8217;un treball conjunt i acurat de recerca.</p>
